Bathroom Wall Panels

Tiling your bathroom walls will cost around $45/m2 for materials (on the low end of estimates for the cheapest tiles), $60/m2 for the installation and $35/m2 for waterproofing. That equals $140 per square meter to install tiles. Keep in mind that this is for the cheapest tiles and low-cost installation.

Bathroom wall panels cost $179 per panel and around $30 more per panel in accessories like adhesive and internal corners. Installation costs approximately $80 per panel (you can also install them yourself to save this cost). Each shower panel is 2.4m2 which means installing bathroom wall panels costs $120 per square meter.

That leads us to the conclusion that yes, bathroom wall panels are cheaper to install than tiles.

Yes, you can drill into PVC shower wall panels, as this is often needed when installing accessories in your shower cubicle. However, it’s important to maintain watertightness by using a silicone sealant after drilling to seal the hole. It’s often easier to drill into waterproof shower panels than other, harder, surfaces like ceramic tiles.

While wet wall panels are made of tough PVC, the material can be cut to any size relatively easily, making them ideal for small bathrooms or shower enclosures. You can often buy a sided shower panel kit, which comes complete with the panels, trim, and adhesive, and you simply cut the panels to fit. Cutting them won’t affect your watertight finish.

Yes, they are waterproof and the tongue and groove connection doesn't allow water to penetrate. That being said, on new builds the NCC doesn't consider wet wall panels to be a full "waterproof system", they are considered a "water-resistant layer" that is a part of a system.
